2017 Indoor Cycling World Championships in Dornbirn, Austria - Organisers satisfied with procedure to date, preliminary programme agreed

The organisers of this year’s Indoor Cycling World Championships in Dornbirn, Austria, are in the midst of their preparations for the highlight of the year. The new indoor arena at Dornbirn’s Tradeshow Centre has already staged several events and passed muster with flying colours. This year’s World Championships will be under one roof so competitions will all be within easy reach.

The arena will be specially adapted to the international event with grandstands on all sides. This means that spectators will have a good view of happenings from every seat. The competition floor has also been agreed on (photo). The organisers have opted for a floor that has already proven its worth several times. The training and competition halls are right next to each other. What’s more, spectators will be pleased to know that the catering facilities are close by. In addition, there will be plenty of parking spaces at the Tradeshow Centre, and special parking lots have been set aside for mobile homes. The organisers recommend using their special online info service at www.wm-dornbin2017.at for any questions that participants might have.

Preparations on track

Preparations for the Indoor Cycling World Championships in Dornbirn from 24-26 November 2017 are on track. Following an inspection by Mr Hilmar Hessler (GER), Technical Delegate of the UCI, the organisers are pleased to announce that they have been given the go-ahead for the competition.

The UCI 2017 Indoor Cycling World Championships will be the eighth event to be held in Austria. Vienna has hosted the world championships four times, and Vorarlberg three times. Dornbirn 2017 will be the province’s fourth world-scale event.

World Championships in Austria to date:
Vienna
1937, 1962, 1973, 1983
Bregenz
1990
Dornbirn                   2002, 2008, 2017

Dornbirn at the heart of indoor cycling in Europe … and the world

The big international “indoor cycling family” is very pleased that 2017 will again see a meeting of the world’s best in Vorarlberg, at the heart of indoor cycling in Austria. The province’s sportsmen and women have achieved fantastic successes, particularly over the last few years. The organisers look forward to welcoming athletes from at least 18 nations who will be competing in artistic cycling and cycle-ball events over three days before some 9,000 spectators.

Ticket sales going according to plan

Ticket sales are already going well – about 2/3 of the 9,000 tickets available (for 3 days) have already been sold. As expected, the number of spectators from Germany and Switzerland will be very high. In addition, many visitors from competing countries will travel to the event. Tickets are available online at
www.wm-dornbirn2017.at.

Attractive supporting programme for athletes and visitors

In addition to the exciting artistic cycling and cycle-ball events, the organisers have worked hard to provide an attractive supporting programme. The world championships will definitively prove to be an unforgettable weekend in the Vorarlberg.

Tradeshow centre ideal for large-scale events

Dornbirn’s tradeshow centre will host the indoor cycling world championships for the third time. For good reason, for not only does the centre have a central location and is very easily accessible (both by car and public transport), it is also equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure. Thanks to modern technology, the individual halls can be combined to form one large space. The indoor cyclists will have a total of five halls (Halls 9 to 13) at their disposal for this world-class event.

Thanks go to sponsors

A large-scale event of this kind requires enormous financial support. According to Dieter Heidegger, Chief Organiser, “We’ve already secured some well-known partners who will sponsor the event. These include the Mohren Brewery in Dornbirn, Sinalco Beverages and Pfanner Protective Clothing, to name but a few. Funding has also been received from the Province of Vorarlberg and the City of Dornbirn. This will contribute greatly towards the organisation of the event. Last but not least, we are also in the final phase of negotiations at a federal level.”

Volunteers required for about 1,000 shifts

About 400 men and women from Vorarlberg have volunteered to support the World Championships. They will roll up their shirtsleeves and play an active part in the run-up and follow-up to the championships as well as during the event itself. Under the slogan “A time to make friends”, all the volunteers will do their utmost to create the right world championship atmosphere.

The World Championships will be organised by a 12-person organising committee. Most of the team members can look back on many years of experience. Many were involved in the world championships in 2002 and 2008 and have held different functions in other world championship events. What is more, the organising committee can rely on broad support from local indoor cycling clubs

Preparations for the 2017 Indoor Cycling World Championships are going according to plan. The international event will be staged at the new tradeshow centre in Dornbirn from 24-26 November 2017. Preparations are currently being made for a visit by Mr Hilmar Hessler, Technical Delegate of the UCI. He will come to Dornbirn in late February to inspect the competition site. The organisers trust that Mr Hessler will give the green light for the championships.

Dornbirn 2017 will be the eighth world championships to be held in Austria; it will be the fourth such event hosted by Vorarlberg. Vorarlberg is, after all, firmly at the centre of indoor cycling in Austria.
